Match Report: Yorkshire Post: 6th December 1919:
LEEDS UNITED V WORKSOP TOWN
RAPID SCORING NEAR CLOSE
In spite of a very early start, this game at Elland Road, Leeds, attracted about 4,000 spectators. The home team went under still further
changes, but faulty backplay was still noticeable. The forwards were quite good, especially the wing men, and the display in goal by Rounds
was reminiscent of his best Barnsley days. Worksop Town gave a food all-round display, and just deserved their victory.
When play commenceda cold rain was sweeping the ground from end to end and the United had to face this handicap. They, however,
made light of the difficulty, and the team were a goal in front after five minutes play, Ellson netting. Fluctuating exchanges followed , until at
the end of twenty-minutes, Lindley equalised for Worksop. More open and fast exchanges were witnessed with neither side able to score,
but just before half-time Town gained the lead through the medium of a penalty kick taken by Richardson.
Play was carried on in the second half before an addition was made the score. Then Kodgers put Worksop further in front. At this point
United lost the services of Davies, centre-half back. His ankle seemed to be broken. At the end of forty minutes play Ellson, from a penalty,
scored for United, and Riddick the goals, two minutes later, but just on time Lindley gave Worksop the victory.
Half-time score :-
